I ordered a piece of Spanish Mackerel. They have nothing to do with spain...they are hand caught on lines, one-at-a-time, by Queensland Fishing Families- and they produce the BEST fillet for fish and chips. The fish was sliced and cooked beautifully, and the crumb had an amazing and different sharpness to its texture. The added bush lemon was special. All this provided in mid-afternoon- when so many fish shops have turned off their cookers! I discovered in the car that I got an extra bit- and I felt kind of loved after that (:
I wish I could say good things about this local business. Unfortunately I cant. When MTC had their opening this fish and chip shop gave away free samples of the chips and fish bites and it was really good. We dont eat a lot of fish so it was a while before we went back and it was disappointing. I like to give businesses another go to make sure its consistently bad and not just a bad day. About 6 months ago we got dinner and the fish was all undercooked and the chips over cooked. We were disappointed but it was dinner. About 2 months ago I was craving calamari so we ordered. While waiting to pick up I noticed their refund policy is Bring back the bad food or dont complain, if it was that bad you wouldnt eat it. This doesnt really work when you have gone to the effort of putting 3 kids in the car, driving to Marian to buy lunch, drive home, sit down to eat and .... its terrible. :-( I am not going to pack it up and load the kids up to drive back to the fish shop to maybe get a refund? Unfortunately the food is not what it was or could be and from comments I have seen online the owners dont appear concerned. I hope this changes for their business sake and so the valley can once again get good Fish and Chips. Sorry if this is harsh but it is an honest review of our experience over time.
